Hartford – On Saturday, September 10th State Senator Kevin Kelly joined Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation and the Teamsters Local 1150 in the Home Run for Heroes Charity Fundraiser.

Saturday’s event, held in Bridgeport at a Bluefish baseball game, was hosted by Sikorsky President Jeffrey Pino and Teamsters Local 1150 President Rocco Calo. The event included pre-game activities, an on-field Sikorsky helicopter landing, between inning events and fireworks. Canned goods were collected and three dollars from every ticket sold went towards supporting veteran’s charities – including Columbus House’s Homefront initiative for homeless Veterans.

“I am honored to have been a part of an event that supports the brave men and women who protect our country,” said Senator Kelly. “Without their selfless efforts, we simply would not have the freedoms our children and families enjoy. Home Run for Heroes serves as a small way to show our appreciation.”

Senator Kelly went on to note that, “this fundraiser falls just before an historic anniversary for our country. For ten years September 11th has been a date we remember all those who were lost, all those who fought to save lives that day, and the soldiers who are fighting to protect us now. By participating in events such as this, surrounded by people and families of all ages, there is an added reminder of the importance of our independence and the success of our veterans and soldiers who ensure that our states are united and free.”

Also in attendance were Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch; Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz; United States Marine Mike Mansell; and a representative from Congressman Jim Himes’ office, Jarvis Johnson.

Jeffrey Pino, a host and master of ceremonies, commented, “Sikorsky is proud to support the men and women who have protected our freedoms. We believe strongly in not only saying thank you but also in demonstrating our appreciation for their sacrifices.”

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, headquartered here in Connecticut, employs 4,000 of the state’s 30,000 veterans.
