Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp. plans to hire 100 full-time customer service representatives through the end of this year at its Enfield Call Center facility, bringing its Connecticut workforce to more than 1,600 and boosting its Enfield payroll to more than 400.
The new jobs are a result of Comcast’s need to keep up with the growing demand for its Xfinity cable television, Internet, and telephone service, according to Comcast spokeswoman Kristen Roberts.
Area residents are struggling to find work, and this plan to hire over 100 people at the Enfield Call Center will provide a real shot in the arm for many of our residents and their families.
The 77,000-square-foot Enfield Call Center opened in June 2007, with 170 employees. It was the second call center in the state for Comcast, which has a similar operation in Berlin.
The Enfield center, at 1 Vision Drive off Phoenix Avenue, handles service calls from more than 100,000 subscribers whom Comcast signed up after the joint venture of Comcast and Time Warner bought the bankrupt Adelphia Communications in July 2006.
In that deal, Comcast took over Adelphia’s franchises in Waterbury, Norwich, Seymour, and Old Lyme, operating as part of Comcast’s Connecticut and Western Massachusetts division.
Comcast added 50 customer service representatives at the Enfield center last October, raising the total payroll to around 220, and employment has been growing gradually ever since. Along with new jobs came several operational changes, including new technology and tools that Comcast officials said can monitor its network of services for performance around the clock, and find and repair problems quickly.
State Sen. John A. Kissel, R-Enfield, on Wednesday called the expansion “terrific news” for Enfield.
“Comcast has been an excellent corporate citizen in town, and it is great to see this company thriving and hiring locally,” Kissel said. “Area residents are struggling to find work, and this plan to hire over 100 people at the Enfield Call Center will provide a real shot in the arm for many of our residents and their families.”
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to join Comcast officials on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the company’s call center to mark the formal announcement of the expansion.
Scheduled to join Malloy are Mary McLaughlin, Comcast regional senior vice president, and Jill Stauffer, Comcast regional vice president of customer care.
