Traffic Detour Scheduled To Begin The Week of May 9, 2011 For The Reconstruction of South Main Street in the Town of Plymouth

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a detour will be in effect on South Main Street between East Washington Road and Old Waterbury Road beginning May 9, 2011. The detour is required to complete reconstruction of the roadway and will be in effect until November 2011.

The project consists of the excavation and replacement of the pavement structure along with installation of new drainage structures, relocation of utilities. A section of road will also be realigned to improve the horizontal and vertical geometry of the roadway. This work is expected to be substantially completed by November, 2011 with minor items to be completed during the spring of 2012.

Various pre-closure activities have been completed including clearing and grubbing, removal of a building where road realignment will occur and installation of signing and erosion controls.

Detour – South Main Street will be closed to through traffic between East Washington and Old Waterbury Road. Local access will be maintained during construction.

Motorists will be detoured onto Beach Avenue, Allen Street and Old Waterbury Road.

DOT Project no. 0110-0129 was awarded to Schultz Corporation of Terryville, CT on March 2, 2011 at a cost of $926,980.00 and is scheduled to be completed in May 2012.
