Vernon, CT – Nearly 40 residents filled the cafeteria of the Lake Street School in Vernon last Thursday evening. Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-35) and Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) held a joint Town Hall on the proposed state budget.

After a brief power point on how the state got into the current fiscal crisis, legislators opened up the discussion to questions and answers.

Many in the room understood the gravity of the problem and did not seem defeated. Instead, they asked ‘What can the people do?’

Senator Tony Guglielmo responded, “Call your state legislator and tell them you want a no tax increase proposal.”

Those in the audience seemed to acknowledge cutting spending before raising taxes was the solution they wanted. They asked both lawmakers to follow up once the Republican proposal was finalized.

Senator Guglielmo said his staff will make sure that happens adding, “As we look ahead to a healthy debate, I am hopeful we as a legislature will do the right thing when figuring out the state budget. We can’t afford not to.”
