State Senator L. Scott Frantz Supports the Work of Blue Sky Studios

State Senator L. Scott Frantz attends Blue Sky Studio’s April 4th event at the Connecticut Science Center.

Hartford – Today, State Senator L. Scott Frantz joined legislators and members of the public to praise Blue Sky Studios for their work on an animated production that has brought jobs and revenue to Connecticut.

Blue Sky Studios held a press event and Community Screening today at Hartford’s Connecticut Science Center to announce the release of ‘Rio,’ a computer animated film expected to be one the most popular family films of the year.

“As Ranking Member of the Commerce Committee, I can tell you that nothing in more important than the development of business in Connecticut,” said Senator Frantz. “With this film, Blue Sky Studios was able to utilize our state’s skilled workforce, bring in new jobs and also place Connecticut on the cutting edge of digital film technology, both nationally and globally.”

‘Rio’ marks the company’s first fully in-state production since their operations were relocated to Connecticut.

Commenting on the importance of rebuilding the state’s economy, Senator Frantz said, “Going forward, the legislature needs to ensure businesses like Blue Sky Studios remain in Connecticut. Their success in the film industry has put Connecticut back on the map and their achievements with ‘Rio’ send a welcome sign to other companies that Connecticut is in fact, a competitive and friendly place in which to do business.”

Today’s celebration attracted leading legislative officials, Governor Malloy, children from the local Boys and Girls Club, and patients from the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Located in Greenwich, Connecticut, Blue Sky Studios is a wholly owned unit of Fox Filmed Entertainment (a subsidiary of News Corporation). The studio was founded in 1987 with a mission to pioneer creatively superior photo-realistic, high-resolution, computer-generated character animation for the feature film, television and entertainment industries.
