Largest Tax Hike in State History

February 16, 2011

Hartford CT – Senator Len Fasano reacts to Governor Dannel Malloy’s State of the State Address.

“I applaud the governor for seeking $2 billion in concessions from state employees and I wish him success but we still need to keep an eye on cutting spending,” said Senator Fasano.  “Downsizing government means more than just the elimination of 150-jobs among a 46,000 person work force.  We need to privatize services and sell off state assets if we really want to make a dent in our spending.”

“This is the largest tax hike in state history. These are massive tax increases on the middle class at a time when our residents can least afford it,” said Senator Fasano. “Just about every tax is raised – income, sales, corporate, gas, alcohol, hotel, tobacco, admission, and dues.”

Senator Fasano added, “This tax hike doesn’t reflect a concerted effort to reduce the size and cost of government.  It puts us as a significant disadvantage with our neighboring states, which are making honest efforts to cut first and tax as a last resort.”
