State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and State Representative Steve Fontana (D-North Haven) Wednesday, July 22nd, celebrated Ridge Road Elementary School’s 2nd and 3rd place victories in the Department of Transportation’s “Walk It/Bike It to School Connecticut” contest.

During the 2009-2010 school year, teachers from schools all around Connecticut registered their classes and kept track of students’ mileage. The Annino’s Awe-inspiring 4’s from Ridge Road took 2nd place, clocking 1629 miles and Ms. Sandy Pavkov’s Priceless 4/5’s from Ridge Road logged 1273 miles taking 3rd place.

“This is a great program and I am impressed these kids and their teachers took the initiative to get involved,” said Sen. Fasano. “They should be very proud of their accomplishments. Anything we can do to get our young people active and outdoors is a great thing. By encouraging safe walking and biking to school, the state and the teachers at Ridge Road have done a great service to our children. I hope to see more schools participating next year.”

“I’m pleased that Sen. Fasano and I could acknowledge the dedication of the kids in Mr. Annino’s and Mrs. Pavkov’s classes by hosting a party for them,” Rep. Fontana said. “I’m very proud of them for coming up with this simple, but effective, way to think of others and make a difference. It’s yet another example of what makes North Haven a special community.”

Sen. Fasano and Rep. Fontana hosted a pizza party Wednesday to congratulate the students and their teachers. The school had also been honored at the state capitol in May.
