Senator Toni Boucher (R-26) this morning hosted an awards ceremony for first- and second-place winners of Wilton’s sixth grade essay contest at Middlebrook School. Participants in the essay contest, which was open to all private and public school sixth graders in Wilton, answered the question: “If you were an elected official, how would you make your community a better place to live?” The first place winner was Lily Walsh from Middlebrook School and the runner-up was Katey Forsyth, also from Middlebrook School.

“I am very impressed by the thoughtful and well-written essays submitted by all the participants. I have no doubt that they will grow up to be responsible adults with a great deal to contribute to their community, our state and our country. I want to congratulate our winners and thank everyone who participated, especially the Wilton Savings Bank who generously provided savings bonds as prizes,” said Senator Boucher.

“Ms. Lily Walsh’s winning essay showed a maturity well beyond her years and provided such great ideas to improve the community that I would encourage Wilton town leaders to review its content,” said Sen. Boucher.  “Wilton’s town board may find some of her suggestions helpful in their mission to keep Wilton a wonderful place in which to live. I was particularly struck by her concern for our senior citizens. These young writers are another great example of the fine work of the Middlebrook School community.  Wilton bank should be recognized and commended for its continual and generous contributions to Wilton and its families.”

Wilton Savings Bank Senior Vice President, Melissa Mednick, worked closely with Sen. Boucher to make the essay contest possible for students in Wilton and was an important part of the ceremony. Ms. Chris Markey, a teacher at Middlebrook School, also volunteered a great deal of her time to review submissions.
