Senator Kissel Announces He Will Participate in Public Forum on the Effects of the Recession on Children in Connecticut

January 15, 2010

Hartford, CT – State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) today announced he will participate in a public forum in Enfield on Saturday, January 23rd. The forum is one of several being hosted by Speaker of the House Chris Donovan’s “Children in the Recession Task Force.” The task force will hear from parents, children, community leaders and lawmakers about the negative effects the economic downturn is having on the lives of children in the state and will develop suggestions on ways to mitigate those effects.

“I am proud to be part of the important discussion on how our state’s children are weathering this economic storm,” said Senator Kissel. “However, as we move forward in working to support them, it is critical that we remember our state is facing billions of dollars in deficit over the next several years. We must be creative and resourceful in providing for our state’s children and young adults while at the same time ensuring that doing so will not further burden state taxpayers at a time when they can least afford. I am eager to be part of this discussion and look forward to developing some positive, responsible solutions.”

The public hearing will be Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the auditorium of Asnuntuck Community College located at 170 Elm Street. Sign-up sessions to testify at the hearing will begin at 8:30 a.m.
