Senate Republican Leaders Support Increasing Governor’s Rescission Authority

December 28, 2009

Statement from State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-Fairfield):

“Since the beginning of this budget crisis, Democrat leaders have left Governor Rell all alone in making the difficult, but necessary spending cuts these times demand. That’s why Senate Republicans have proposed increasing the Governor’s rescission authority in the past and why we feel it is a necessary step toward balancing our budget today.

Statement from State Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven):

“The Governor and the legislature have a job to do, and that is to close a budget deficit estimated between $337 million and $550 million. The Democrats’ $12 million mitigation plan can hardly be considered a sincere effort at accomplishing that task. If Democrat leaders are not willing to do the work the people of Connecticut expect them to do, then get out of the way, so Governor Rell and Republican legislators can finish the task.”
