McKinney, Cafero Call on Democrat Leaders to Begin Bipartisan Budget Talks Immediately

December 29, 2009

Hartford, CT – State Senate Republican Leader John McKinney (R-Fairfield) and State House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr. (R-Norwalk) today sent a letter to Democrat leaders [pdf] of the General Assembly calling for immediate bipartisan talks to address Connecticut’s budget crisis. The Republican leaders said partisan approaches to balancing the budget, including last week’s failed special session, have not worked. They have offered to make themselves and their staffs available immediately to work across party lines to close the deficit which is estimated to be between $337 million and $550 million.
