Senator Kissel Applauds LEGO’s National Recognition

September 25, 2009

State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) today applauded Enfield-based LEGO Systems Inc., for being recognized as one of America’s most family-friendly workplaces. LEGO was named by Working Mother as one of the best employers for women with families.

“LEGO has been a wonderful corporate citizen in the town of Enfield for many years,” said Sen. Kissel. “I had the opportunity to meet with several LEGO executives, including their President, Soren Laurenson last March. What I saw on my visit was a company that truly values their employees and it came as no surprise to see this well-deserved recognition of their family-friendly workplace.”

Working Mother is a national magazine focused on helping working moms balance their professional and family lives. Each year they put out a list of the top 100 companies for moms to work for and LEGO Systems Inc., along with three other companies from Connecticut, was in their most recent publication. LEGO was noted in the article for not only their policies specifically relating to women, but their overall outstanding employee treatment. The company provides bicycles for employees to utilize on breaks, an artificial putting green, free massages, and a child care facility that employees pay for on a sliding scale. LEGO also encourages women to take advantage of a flexible schedule and allows their employees to work from home whenever needed.

“LEGO is an important part of our local economy and it is wonderful to see them leading the way in creating a work place that values the role of women in the workforce. We need more companies willing to work towards helping all employees balance work and family life and I am hopeful that many more businesses in Connecticut will follow their lead,” added Sen. Kissel.
