State Representative Sean Williams and state Senator Rob Kane recently presented Watertown resident Matthew Laskarzewski, a freshman at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, with a Citation from the Connecticut General Assembly honoring him for being selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security (N.Y.L.F.) in Washington D.C. this fall.

the nation’s highest achieving secondary school students prepare for future professional careers. Students are selected to attend the forum based on their scholastic achievements and strong leadership qualities, the legislators said.
“Being selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. is a singular achievement for any American high school student. It was especially gratifying to me to learn that Matt Laskarzewski of Watertown, one of my constituents, was chosen to participate in this unique program,” said Representative Williams, R-68th District. “Matt is an outstanding student who will make the most of the educational and leadership opportunities the N.Y.L.F. offers. His achievement reflects well on his family, school and community. Rob and I were pleased to recognize him for it with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly.”

It was a pleasure to help recognize him for being invited to participate in the highly regarded National Youth Leadership Forum,” said Senator Kane, R-32nd District.
“Matthew will be attending the forum from September 14th until October 19th and will need financial assistance to help cover his expenses in our nation’s capitol. We’d like to encourage every 68th District resident to honor his achievement by contributing whatever they can,” the legislators said.

Speakers expected to address forum participants include former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage (2001-2005) and former Central Intelligence Agency Director George Tenet (1997-2004). Matthew is expected to visit the U. S. House of Representatives, the U. S. Senate, the U. S. Supreme Court, the C.I.A, the Smithsonian Institution, the Pentagon, and the Korean and Vietnam War memorials. The N.Y.L.F curriculum includes national disaster simulations, seminars on current issues and crisis management at the executive level, the legislators said.
