Senator Fasano, Co-chair of the Long Island Sound LNG Task Force, to New York: “Reject Broadwater!”

March 13, 2008

Over the past 2 ½ years, the Connecticut Long Island Sound Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Task Force established by Governor M. Jodi Rell has engaged in an intense study of Broadwater Energy LLC’s proposal to construct and operate the world’s largest floating LNG facility in the middle of Long Island Sound. During the course of its analysis, the Task Force has reviewed more than 300 documents and written public comments, held 16 public hearings, and heard hours of testimony from leading environmental science experts. The Task Force submitted its final report to Governor Rell on Wednesday, concluding that federal regulators failed to protect public interests or to consider viable alternatives to the Broadwater project. On Thursday, Governor Rell joined State Senators Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and Andrea Stillman (D-Waterford), the Task Force’s co-chairs, to release publicly the Task Force’s findings and its formal recommendation to the State of New York: reject Broadwater!

The New York Department of State must decide before April 11th whether or not the proposed Broadwater LNG facility meets coastal zone management requirements.
