$435,000 in STEAP Grants for Easton

March 28, 2008

Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that the town of Easton received a total of $435,000 in Connecticut Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants to fund a pair of projects.

Funds include $400,000 for the renovation of an old school into a senior center and $35,000 for the construction of a youth baseball field for the Easton Little League. The funds are being made available through the Connecticut Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). STEAP provides financial assistance for projects that encourage economic development and preserve the character of the state’s less populated towns.

“I am pleased that this funding will be used to help Easton convert an old school into a senior center and construct a new baseball field for the Easton Little League,” said Governor Rell. “Community programs that offer our seniors a place to gather and our children a place to play are so important and I am glad that we can provide these funds.”

“These projects are immensely important to the town of Easton and they will make a huge impact on the town,” said State Senator John McKinney, 28th District. “Both the new Little League field and the conversion of the old school into a senior center will open up more daily opportunities for our youth and our seniors.”

“This is significant news for the people of Easton,” said State Representative John E. Stripp, 136th District. “I was pleased to be of help in successfully securing this grant money for our town.”

More than $19.7 million in STEAP funds for 72 towns were approved by the Bond Commission today. The funds will enable 83 projects across the state to move forward.
