HARTFORD – State Senator Len Fasano (R-34) and State Representative Mary G. Fritz (D-90) today announced that the Town of Wallingford has been awarded a $700,000 Small Cities Block Grant by the state of Connecticut. The grant will be used to renovate 30 units of elderly housing at East Side Terrace, an elderly housing complex in Wallingford.

“Quality, affordable senior housing is and will continue to be important to our communities. I am pleased Governor Rell recognized this need in the Town of Wallingford,” said Senator Fasano.“I commend Representative Fritz for her leadership in working with state and local officials to help secure this grant.”

The Town of Wallingford will use the grant to make a number of structural repairs to the housing units, including a roof redesign to eliminate poor drainage, as well as the installation of replacement windows, entry doors and storm doors to improve energy efficiency.

“East Side Terrace is a wonderful complex for seniors,” said Representative Fritz. “I am very happy to see this grant will improve the facility’s energy efficiency and ensure the comfort of residents.”

The federal Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program funds the state Small Cities grants. The program, operated by Connecticut’s Department of Economic and Community Development under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, provides grants to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and the revitalization of development projects.
