Sen. Fasano, Rep. Fontana Announce Funding for Ridge Road Elementary School Playground
February 5, 2008HARTFORD – State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and Representative Steve Fontana (D-North Haven) today announced that the Town of North Haven has been awarded a $15,600 grant through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) for the construction of a playground at Ridge Road Elementary School.
“The local community put their hearts and souls into raising more than $10,000 in small private contributions to help make this playground a reality. I am so pleased we were able to help secure additional state funding on their behalf,” said Senator Fasano. “In an age when children’s past times are often dominated by television and electronic devices, it is increasingly important for our schools and local communities to promote physical activities that encourage kids to get up and get moving. That’s what I hope this playground will accomplish.”
“I’m proud to have been able to work with Ridge Road School parents and Sen. Fasano to deliver this state funding,” said Representative Fontana. “Having grown up on Crestview Drive down the street from the school, I remember spending hours playing on the school’s grounds as a boy. This state grant will help hundreds of North Haven children continue to share in that same great experience.”
The Ridge Road Elementary Parent Teacher Association had previously raised more than $10,000 from local contributors for the playground, which will be ADA accessible and include ground level and elevated play events and routes of travel designed specifically for special needs users.
