Senator John McKinney Named Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore

Senator John McKinney, R-Fairfield, has been named by Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca to a second term as Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore.

“This is a terrific honor and I am grateful to Senator DeLuca, and to our entire caucus, for the opportunity to continue to promote the values and ideals that we believe best serve the people of Connecticut. I look forward to the next two years and the work ahead of us, and I am proud to serve along side such a wonderful group of people,” said Senator McKinney.

Senator DeLuca, R-Woodbury, was unanimously re-elected today by the Senate Republican Caucus to serve a fourth term as Senate Republican Leader.

Senator McKinney was first elected to represent the 28th Senate District in 1998. Senator DeLuca named him to his first term as Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore following the 2004 election. Senator McKinney is known for his efforts to protect the environment and his advocacy on behalf of the homeless.
