Local Legislator Takes a Swing
November 2, 2006Senator Fasano to Bat First at “Sledge Hammer Swinging” Ceremony
State Senator Len Fasano (R-34th) will be the first to take a swing with a sledgehammer to the old concession stand at Kennedy Field in East Haven as Foxon Little League members and local officials take part in a “Sledge Hammer Swinging” ceremony this Saturday November 4th at 11 AM at The Pit. The event is in celebration of a new two-story concession stand and meeting house that will be built thanks to a $70,000 stand grant. Senator Fasano (R-34th) and East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. helped secure the state funding.
“I’m happy to take the first swing at the old stand, but I’m even happier for all the Foxon Little League officials, parents, and especially the players, who will have the new stand ready by Opening Day next spring,” said Senator Fasano. “The Foxon League for years has kept kids active in the spring and summer months playing baseball and softball. It’s a true asset to the town.
“Foxon is a terrific organization that continues to expand each year,” said Mayor Maturo. “Its volunteers have worked especially hard on behalf of the boys and girls who participate and this funding will allow the league to continue to thrive.”
The Foxon Recreation League has been in existence for 49 years, giving boys and girls ranging from ages 5 to 18 the opportunity to play baseball and softball at a variety of different levels. Regular season play runs from April to August, with opportunities available for post-season, “All Star” play.
