Senator Kissel to Present Citation at Grand Opening for All-Access Playground at Poquonock School in Windsor

October 3, 2006

State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) will be presenting a citation to officials of the Poquonock Elementary School at an event this Thursday at 2 PM held on 1760 Poquonock Avenue in Windsor. The event celebrates the completion of a new all-access playground at the Poquonock School that was built thanks in part to four years of local fundraising efforts. State Representative Ruth C. Fahrbach (R-Windsor) will also be in attendance to present $9500 in state bond funds that will help finalize payment on the project.

“This is a great day for all the people, including parents, teachers, and PTO members, who put in so much hard work not only raising the money for this project, but also providing the labor to construct it. It’s also especially fantastic news for the hundreds of children in the Windsor area who played a big role in helping to raise funds through their “pennies for playground” effort and now will be able to enjoy the playground for years to come,” said Senator Kissel.

“I would also like to recognize Representative Fahrbach for helping to secure the state funds being put towards the project. The new playground has created a more inviting playscape environment for children of all abilities and I congratulate all those involved in making the project a reality,” Senator Kissel added.

Local fundraising from a variety of sources including tag sales, karate clinics, raffles, a town fair booth, and annual appeals to businesses and families contributed approximately $64,500 to the project. The new playground is more handicap accessible, has increased play centers usable by children of all abilities, and has additional areas that physically engage children of all ages.

Senator Kissel is a Deputy Minority Leader and the Ranking Senator on the Judiciary Committee. He represents the 7th District Communities of East Granby, Enfield, Granby, Somers, Suffield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.
