Senator Kissel Appointed to Youth Futures Committee
July 12, 2006State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) has been appointed to the newly created Youth Futures Committee by Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca (R-Woodbury). The committee was created by Public Act 06-182 and is charged with developing statewide policy guidelines for positive youth development, as well as other responsibilities relating to the improved delivery of youth services. Senator Kissel is one of six members of the General Assembly appointed to the Committee.
“I would like to thank Senator DeLuca for this appointment. I am looking forward to working with the other members of the committee to help children throughout the state,” said Senator Kissel. “Our children are the future of this state and we need to do everything possible to see that they receive a proper education and develop the skills needed to succeed later in life.”
One of the committee’s primary goals is to help all students receive a good education. The committee will seek to improve school attendance, academic and technical proficiencies, and high school diploma and equivalency completion rates. It will also help young people prepare for professional careers by working to increase the percentage of youth enrolled in and completing post-secondary education and training programs, as well as skill-building employment programs.
Senator Kissel is a Deputy Minority Leader and represents the seventh district communities of East Granby, Enfield, Granby, Somers, Suffield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.
