U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary Nicholson Makes Official Announcement Today

State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) was pleased today with the announcement that the federal government has approved Connecticut’s request for funding to help cover the cost of a new 125-bed nursing home care facility for veterans. The U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs R. James Nicholson made the official announcement at a press conference held this afternoon at the future site of the facility in Rocky Hill. Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda S. Schwartz, Governor M. Jodi Rell, as well as members of Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation were also on hand.

“This is simply fantastic news for Connecticut and the thousands of Veterans throughout the State who bravely served our great nation. We need to do everything possible to care for our state’s veterans, especially as they get older,” said Senator Fasano, who is the Ranking Senator on the General Assembly’s Select Committee on Veterans Affairs. “When completed, this state-of-the-art facility will provide a variety of healthcare needs for veterans and employ many of the best healthcare workers in the state. This project comes with a large price tag so it is great for state taxpayers that the federal government has approved this sizable grant.”

The grant announced to day will total nearly $22 million and will not exceed sixty five (65) percent of the actual cost of construction of the facility as determined by the final audit.

Senator Fasano represents the 34th District Communities of East Haven, North Haven, and Wallingford.
