Senator Fasano to Host Identity Theft Forum with State Veterans’ Commissioner

May 31, 2006

State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) will host an informational forum for all veterans in and around the 34th District on Thursday June 15th at 7 PM in the Council Chambers at Wallingford Town Hall. Connecticut Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Linda Schwartz will co-host the forum with Senator Fasano and will be available to answer any questions. The forum is being held in response to the recently disclosed theft of medical and credit information from the U.S. Veterans Administration.

“Having one’s personal information stolen is extremely frightening. Our goal ease the concerns of veterans and give them and their families the proper steps to take to ensure that their records are safeguarded,” said Senator Fasano, who is the Ranking Senator on the General Assembly’s Select Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. “The forum will also give those in attendance the opportunity to ask me or Commissioner Schwartz questions they may have on any veterans’ issue. Connecticut has a variety of programs in place to assist those that have served our country and we want veterans to be fully aware of them.”

Senator Fasano is one of many state officials that has taken the lead in helping to protect Connecticut veterans’ personal information following the revelations of the theft on the federal level.

“I would like to thank Commissioner Schwartz and Governor M. Jodi Rell for their tireless work in helping to properly inform as many of Connecticut’s 280,000 veterans as possible regarding how to protect their private information in light of the recent theft. This forum in Wallingford is one of many stops Commissioner Schwartz and members of the Governor’s newly creating Identity Theft Information Team are making,” added Senator Fasano.

The Identity Theft Information team is composed of staff from the Departments of Consumer Protection, Public Safety, Banking and Veterans Affairs and is charged with assisting veterans with monitoring financial accounts, credits reports, or correcting erroneous information.

The 34th District is composed of the towns of East Haven, North Haven, and Wallingford. Senator Fasano is a Minority Leader and is currently serving his second term.
