March 21, 2006

State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) last night welcomed two members of the Enfield Hall of Fame along with a member of the Hall’s Board of Directors to a taping of his monthly cable show “Senator Kissel and Friends.” Fran Slattery, a longtime coach of youth athletics in Enfield, Karen (Hebert) Gowen, a former three-sport star at Enfield High School, and Tim Jensen, a Board of Directors member, joined Senator Kissel for a round-table discussion. The show will air during the month of April on Mondays at 9:30 on Cox Cable Channel 15.

“I would like to thank Fran, Karen, and Tim for taking the time to come on the program and discuss their contributions to the town of Enfield and its residents,” said Senator Kissel. “Their accomplishments and service to the town are impressive, and I encourage viewers to tune in and learn more about Enfield’s history.”

Slattery coached for 20 years in the Hazardville Little League and led six teams to league championships. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. (Hebert) Gowen starred in field hockey, basketball, and softball at Enfield High School (when she was known by her maiden name, Karen Hebert). She was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2004. Jensen has served on the Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors since 1999 and is the current Editor in Chief of the Enfield Press.

Senator Kissel is a Deputy Minority Leader and the Ranking Senator on the Judiciary Committee. He is serving his seventh term representing the 7th district communities of East Granby, Enfield, Granby, Somers, Suffield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.
