Officials From FERC and Giuliani Group to Testify at LNG Task Force Hearing

December 5, 2005

n official from the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission (FERC) as well as the Senior Vice President of a lobbying group led by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will testify before the Long Island Sound Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Task Force this Wednesday. The meeting will be held at 10 AM in Room 1A of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) is the Chairman of the Task Force.

“That we have federal officials not to mention a representative from such a high-profile lobbying group appearing before the Task Force just underscores the importance of our work,” said Senator Fasano. “This LNG facility has federal as well as state and local implications and it is our responsibility to gather as much information from as many sources as possible. I am looking forward to what should be an eventful and informative hearing on Wednesday.”

Richard Hoffman, who serves as the Director of the Gas-Environment& Engineering Division of the Office of Energy Projects, will speak on behalf of FERC at approximately 1PM. Richard Sheirer, Senior VP of the Giuliani Group and a former NY City Commissioner of Emergency Management will precede him at approximately 11:30AM. Professor Marilyn Altobello from UConn and Eric Johnson from ISO New England will also offer presentations and field questions from Task Force Members.

The Task Force was formed this past summer by Governor M. Jodi Rell in order to monitor the construction and operation of a proposed floating LNG unit in Long Island Sound.

Senator Fasano is a Minority Leader and the Ranking Senator on the Veterans’ Affairs and Planning and Development Committees. He is serving his second term representing East Haven, North Haven, and Wallingford.
