Senator Fasano Happy with $409,500 Open Space Grant for Wallingford

November 17, 2005

State Senator Len Fasano (R-34th) was pleased with the announcement today of a $409,500 grant for the Town of Wallingford as part of the state’s Open Space and Watershed Acquisition Grant Program. The grant will be used for the acquisition of the Cuneo Property, a 17-acre parcel of land located in the Southern Connecticut Regional Water Authority Mill River Watershed.

“First I would like to thank Governor Rell and Commissioner McCarthy for their dedication to Connecticut’s environment and natural resources,” said Senator Fasano who just this week was honored by the Working Lands Alliance for his commitment to open space in Connecticut. “I understand the value of preserving open space and farmland in Connecticut. Today’s grant is especially valuable since it aids in the protection of the 117-acre Fresh Meadow Swamp Conservation Area which is adjacent to the Cuneo Property.”

Governor Rell and Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Gina McCarthy made the official announcement this afternoon in Norwalk. Today’s grants were the eleventh round of awards. $6.8 million was awarded to twenty-four towns across the state.
Senator Fasano is a Minority Leader serving his second term representing East Haven, North Haven and Wallingford.
