Broadwater Task Force to Convene on Monday

The first meeting of the Long Island Sound Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Task Force will take place on Monday October 3 rd at 10AM in Room 1B of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, CT. Formed by Governor M. Jodi Rell through Executive Order #9 and chaired by State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) the group’s aim is to draft plans to address any issues or incidents related to the proposed LNG storage facility for Long Island Sound.

Monday’s agenda will consist of an organizational meeting starting at 10AM to introduce members, discuss the direction the Task Force will take, schedule speakers and experts, and establish future meeting dates. At 12:30 p.m. Representatives from Broadwater, the company financing the LNG project, will present their proposed project in detail, followed by a question and answer period.

“We want to have fair and impartial hearings regarding this project. I anticipate hearing from experts in the fields of public safety, environment, and homeland security, among other areas since our goal is to ensure that Connecticut is protected from any problems that may arise if this project eventually moves forward,” said Senator Fasano. “I am looking forward to working alongside fellow Task Force members who fully understand the project to ensure that Connecticut issues are addressed.”

The task force includes four legislative appointees, six state agency commissioners, and three gubernatorial appointments.
Senator Fasano is serving his second term representing the 34 th district communities of East Haven, North Haven, and Wallingford.
