April 21, 2005

State Senator Len Fasano (R-34th) announced that legislation that would give combat pay along with death benefits for Connecticut military personnel and their families passed successfully out of the Appropriations Committee on Tuesday. Senator Fasano, who voted in favor of the bill in Appropriations, is also the Ranking Member on the Select Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

“On the Veteran’s Committee this session, we have done everything we can to see that the men and women who have risked their lives to protect our freedom are properly cared for. I am pleased that with so many important spending bills out there, my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee recognized the importance of helping not only military personnel, but their families, as well,” said Senator Fasano.

Tuesday’s legislation would help provide up to $100,00 in death benefits for families of Connecticut servicemen killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. It also provides monthly pay for National Guard Reservists on combat duty and an additional fund for military families.

The Select Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is in its initial year of existence. It reports out bills concerning both military and veterans affairs.

Senator Fasano is an Assistant Minority Leader and represents East Haven, North Haven and Wallingford. In addition to Veteran’s Affairs, Senator Fasano is the Ranking Member of the Planning and Development Committee as well as a member of the General Law, and Program Review and Investigations Committees.
