State Senator John A. Kissel, R-Enfield, today praised the Somers Education Foundation for their efforts in putting additional resources into educational programs in the town of Somers. According to Sen. Kissel, the Foundation has become a successful partner in expanding the education of local students. The Somers Education Foundation will be announcing the award of its first grant to the science department of the Somers Public Schools at a ceremony held tomorrow, December 2 nd at 10:00a.m., in Craig Arnone Memorial Hall located at the Somers Fire Department on the corner of Ninth District Road and Main Street.

“I believe that the Somers Education Foundation is really offering something that gives our young people a unique, hands-on opportunity to learn about an exciting field that may not be feasible in a school classroom,” said Sen. Kissel. “I commend the efforts of the Somers Education Foundation to expand the horizons of our young people.”

The Somers Education Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit tax-exempt corporation and was created to preserve the community’s commitment to educational innovation, curriculum enrichment programs, and teacher training designed to improve student achievement. The foundation does not fund requests that are considered to be a normal part of the annual school budget.
According the Foundation, the grant will allow a unique learning opportunity in the forensic field. The project will consist of the construction of a crime scene where an act of arson occurs and students will responsible for the investigation.
