Thank You Voters

November 12, 2004

I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all voters in East Haven, North Haven, and Wallingford for choosing me to return to the State Senate for a second term. It’s truly been an honor representing you these last two years and I promise to continue to do so to the best of my ability in 2004 and 2005.

This year, voters in Connecticut had a lot to be proud of. I was pleased to learn that, according to the Secretary of State’s office, nearly 80% of Connecticut’s registered voters turned out to vote on Election Day. That’s great news for our democracy as the turnout demonstrates that more and more people are taking an active interest in how our government is run, which bodes well for our future.

It was also great to see many parents bringing their children with them to the polls. It is never too young to start teaching kids about the importance of voting. If they are accustomed to going with their parents to vote every first Tuesday in November, then they’ll be more apt to vote themselves when they turn 18.

As I have mentioned before, constituent service is the most rewarding part of this job and is one of the main reasons that I decided to pursue a second term. As I promised during both of my campaigns, I will hold regular office hours so I can have the chance to meet with constituents face to face.

On the first Monday of each month, I am available in the conference room of the Recreation Center in North Haven. On the third Monday of each month, constituents should feel free to visit me in the mayor’s suite at the town hall in East Haven. Finally, I am in Wallingford the 4 th Tuesday of each month in Room 116 of the Town Hall. The hours are always from 5:30 to 6:30 in the respective towns.

There’s sure to be a great deal of questions regarding this year’s long legislative session, which begins on January 5 th . I am hopeful that we can come to a resolution this year on medical malpractice reform. In addition, I am looking to continue my work as an advocate for farmland preservation as well as work in a bi-partisan manner to help secure even more open space throughout the state of Connecticut.

Again, thank you for your support on November 2 nd . I promise to work diligently on behalf of ALL the residents of East Haven, North Haven, and Wallingford. You gave me that responsibility and I intend to live up to it. If you have any questions or concerns please visit me during my office hours or call me directly toll-free at 1 (800) 842-1421.
