Rep. Bacchiochi and Senator Guglielmo State to Approve $145,000 for Damaged Road
September 22, 2004State Representative Penny Bacchiochi, R-Somers, and Senator Tony Guglielmo, R-Stafford, announced today that the State Bond Commission is expected to award $145,600 Thursday so that local officials can replace a badly damaged culvert on Mashapaug Road.
The State Bond Commission will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
“Union, the smallest town in the state, can use all the funding it can get and this is a project that needs to be done,” Rep. Bacchiochi said. “That culvert was installed in 1956, and a replacement is needed as soon as possible. The way it is now is a public safety hazard.”
“This assistance program was designed for projects like this,” said Sen. Guglielmo. “One of state government’s biggest responsibilities is to make sure our infrastructure is safe and modernized. This grant addresses a specific need that the town of Union has identified and I’m glad to hear this funding has been authorized.”
These funds were made available through the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program, which allocates money to economic development, community conservation and quality of life projects.
