Senator Kissel Receives Awards
June 24, 2004State Senator John A. Kissel, R-Enfield, was recently recognized as an outstanding supporter of healthcare by the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians (CSEP) and the Connecticut Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery Society. He also received an award of appreciation from the Future Farmers of America (FFA) for his contributions and support for vocational-agricultural education programs.
“I am honored to be recognized by such fine organizations,” said Sen. Kissel. “Healthcare and education are issues at the forefront of state government. To have the respect of these healthcare professionals along with a fine group of young people is very gratifying.”
The CSEP represents more than 300 Eye MD’s in Connecticut to insure quality eye care for state residents. The Connecticut Dermatology Society represents 92% of dermatologists in Connecticut and consists of 160 members. The society advocates awareness of the dangers of ultra-violet rays, skin cancer and other skin disorders. Over the last 10 years the group has given out only six legislative awards.
With over 400,000 members nationwide the Future Farmers of America is known as the country’s largest youth group. There are 19 FFA chapters in Connecticut including the Suffield Regional chapter, which hosted the FFA state convention on June 5 th . For 75 years the FFA has been part of the vocational agriculture/agribusiness instruction program that prepares students for careers in the industry of agriculture and agribusiness. Over the years Senator Kissel has promoted events sponsored by the FFA and has invited members of the local FFA to his cable television show to discuss upcoming activities of the group.
