Senator Fasano Announces State Money for Wallingford

December 16, 2003

State Senator Len Fasano today announced that the State Bond Commission will approve $650,000 in bonding for the Town of Wallingford when it meets this Friday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The first grant, for $150,000, will be put towards Phase II of the Quinnipiac Linear Trail Project. A second, for $500,000, will pay for the construction of an all-weather track along with bleacher improvements at Mark T. Sheehan High School.

“The trail will provide expanded recreational opportunities for the citizens of Wallingford and surrounding communities,” explained Senator Fasano. “The town has worked closely wit the Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection to coordinate the project and I’m happy to see it moving forward.

Phase II of the Quinnipiac Linear Trail Project consists of the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over the Quinnipiac River, a new pedestrian tunnel under the Wilbur Cross Parkway, and an additional 900 feet of connecting trail. Phase I of the trail is approximately one mile long and was completed and opened to the public in 1999.

The high school track project consists of converting an obsolete cinder track into an eight lane all weather track as well as providing upgraded drainage and relocating bleachers.

“This is great not only for the athletes and students at the high school, but local residents, many of whom exercise on the track,” said Senator Fasano. “I am glad our state’s commitment to our youths’ education includes in and out of classroom activities.”
