Senator Fasano Announces Funding for East Haven
December 16, 2003State Senator Len Fasano (R-34th) is pleased to announce that state funds totaling $1.1 million will be awarded to the town East Haven at Friday’s State Bond Commission Hearing. A $600,000 grant will cover the costs of Phase I of the reconstruction project of the sports fields at East Haven High School. The other grant, for $500,000, will aid the town in relocating a 36” sanitary sewer line as part of expansion of the Town Fair Tire Distribution Center.
“I am a big supporter of local athletics, so I am thrilled to see the state support these improvements to local sports fields. It’s certainly a big plus for East Haven its youth,” said Senator Fasano. “The multi-purpose “Cresafi Field” will help the town sports department expand and offer even more programs to our young athletes.”
Phase I of the improvement project consists of five main initiatives. Ten inches of existing soil will be excavated and replaced with gravel. Workers will then install drainage piping and curbing as well as a new sports turf surface. New lighting will be installed as well as additional wiring and transformers in order to provide adequate lighting for the field. Finally, a press box, a new scoreboard, and handicap accessible bleachers that seat up to 1,000 spectators will be installed.
The sewer line relocation is part of the expansion of the existing Town Fair Tire corporate/distribution center building located at 460 Coe Avenue in East Haven. In order to proceed with the project, the 36” sanitary sever line, which crosses the Town Fair property over the proposed new construction, must be relocated. East Haven is providing the funding for design and construction of the project, while this state funding covers the hard cost.
“This funding plays a big role in insuring that Town Fair Tire can complete their expansion and remain in East Haven,” added Senator Fasano. “The company is a key component of East Haven Industrial Park and plays a critical role in keeping the town’s economy and commerce prosperous. Not only does the expansion project provide more local jobs, but Town Fair Tire itself is planning on adding an additional 35-40 employees within a year of the completion of Phase I of the project.”
Senator Fasano is serving his first term representing the towns of East Haven, Wallingford, and North Haven.
