September 27, 2002

State Senator John A. Kissel is happy to announce that the State Bond Commission today approved funding for Asnuntuck Community College along with Hope’s Place Inc., a non-profit organization in Enfield.

Asnuntuck was awarded $343,211 in two grants for the purchase of technology and telecommunications equipment along with related infrastructure improvements. Hope’s Place, Inc. was the recipient of $150,000 that will be used to renovate the former St. Adalbert Convent in Enfield for use as a drop-in center for cancer patients.

“It is always great to hear about improvements made to Connecticut’s community colleges,” said Senator Kissel who is currently serving his fifth term representing the towns of Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks. “Today’s funding is just another example of the state’s ongoing commitment to improving higher education.”

The goal of Hope’s Place, Inc. is to provide a safe and caring environment for individuals affected by cancer and their family and friends as well as to build public awareness about cancer through educational forums and activities.

“Hope’s Place is a wonderful organization that provides support and compassion to those going through extremely difficult times,” added Senator Kissel. “I am glad the state was able to help them expand their services.”
