State Sen. Michael McLachlan today applauded the Senate’s passage of a bill designed to update the decades-old regulations for residential hospice facilities.

The legislation now heads to the governor’s desk.
“Passage of this bill soldifies the business plan for the proposed new residential hospice facility in Danbury, which will serve western Connecticut residents,” Sen. McLachlan said. “With these new regulations in place, a modern facility will be built right here in Danbury which will provide best care practices and meet a vital need in our region. Our entire Danbury legislative delegation deserves tremendous credit for guiding this bill through the legislative process. This is excellent news for greater Danbury and I am pleased the bill received overwhelming bipartisan support.”

Construction of 12-bed residential hospice facility on the city’s west side begins later this year. The new center will be one of only a handful that are available in the state for end-of-life in-patient hospice care.

Sen. McLachlan Honors Danbury High Hoops Team at Capitol

On May 3, State Sen. Michael McLachlan welcomed the champion Danbury High School girls varsity basketball team to the State Capitol.

In February, the team captured its first FCIAC title, beating defending league champion Trumbull 54-39.

“We are so proud of these players,” Sen. McLachlan said. “They had an amazing season, and we thought it would be a fitting honor to pay tribute to their accomplishments here at the State Capitol. They received a warm round of applause from the Senate Chamber. We also wanted to note the total team effort that it took for this team to become champions. The Hatters’ coaches, teachers and parents all played key support roles throughout the season. This championship season is a reflection of their hard work and their sacrifices along the way. It was a great day for Danbury.”

Sen. McLachlan also paid tribute to Coach Jackie DiNardo for achieving major milestones, including her 400th win and her 25th year as coach.

State Sen. Michael McLachlan today announced he will be participating in a new bipartisan group of lawmakers which will work together to produce better policies for Connecticut manufacturers.

The “Manufacturing Caucus” – comprised of both Democratic and Republican legislators – will begin meeting regularly to promote manufacturing in Connecticut.

“This caucus is a great way for lawmakers to discuss our common goals for the manufacturing industry in Connecticut,” Sen. McLachlan said. “We all want to grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut. This coalition will build upon that shared vision while building bonds between legislators. By working together and exchanging ideas, I am optimistic that we can help shape legislation which will have a positive impact on the manufacturing industry and its workforce.”

McLachlan said the caucus should benefit Connecticut taxpayers in the long run.

“We have a tremendous opportunity here,” McLachlan said. “When you have legislators in a room together and listening to each other, you are moving in the right direction. When that discussion is about job creation, you are bound to create common sense policies which will spark small business growth and breed economic success stories.”

McLachlan (www.senatormclachlan.com) represents Bethel, Danbury, New Fairfield and Sherman.

On May 3 – the National Day of Prayer – a bipartisan group of Connecticut state legislators announced the formation of a Capitol Prayer Caucus.

Sen. Michael McLachlan (R-Danbury), Sen. Edward Meyer (D- Guilford), Rep. Vin Candelora (R-North Branford) and Rep. Bruce Morris (D-Norwalk) have created the new caucus, which will focus on the important role that faith plays in daily life.

“We will aim to bring people of faith together from both sides of the political aisle,” Sen. McLachlan said. “We share common beliefs and common values, and this caucus will emphasize how prayer can foster unity and a mutual respect. We hope our positive message of promoting faith will resonate among our fellow legislators and that our caucus will grow.”

“Legislators do a better job for our constituents if we have prayer support,” Sen. Meyer said.

“I am pleased to be a member of this caucus,” Rep. Candelora said. “The humility of prayer serves as an important reminder of our roles in the legislative process and of governing the state.”

The Connecticut Capitol Prayer Network (www.ctcapitolprayernetwork.org) is the umbrella organization for the Capitol Prayer Caucus. The network is committed to ongoing prayer education.

The Congressional Prayer Caucus at the U.S. Capitol will also provide support to the caucus.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
