State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-8) is serving his third term in the State Senate. He represents the 8th Senate District, which includes the communities of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury and Torrington.
Senator Witkos currently serves as Deputy Minority Leader Pro Tempore and Caucus Chairman for Outreach of the Senate Republican Caucus. Senator Witkos is Ranking Member on the General Assembly’s General Law Committee and Internship Committee. He also serves as a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and Public Safety and Security Committee.
Prior to being elected to the State Senate, Senator Witkos served three terms in the State House of Representatives where he served as ranking House member on the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate, Internship and Program Review and Investigations committees.
Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, Senator Witkos served as Vice Chairman of the Canton Board of Education and as Chief of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department. Senator Witkos previously served as the Capitol Area Substance Abuse Council Representative, and as past President of the Local Chapter of AFSCME Council #15.
In 2012, Senator Witkos joined the Community Relations division of Northeast Utilities after a rewarding 28 year career in law enforcement. He had previously served as a sergeant in the Canton Police Department. Senator Witkos along with his wife Esther are the new owner/operators of Wilson’s Pub in the Collinsville section of Canton. A highlight of 2013 for Senator Witkos occurred on January 1st of this year as he performed his first wedding ceremony as a Justice of the Peace.
Senator Witkos received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and his Associate’s from Tunxis Community College. Previously Senator Witkos was a graduate from the Connecticut Municipal Police Academy and the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management at the University of Massachusetts.
He lives in Canton with his wife Esther and their two children, Kyra and KC.
