Sen. Cicarella Reacts to West Haven Beach Mayhem & Bristol ‘Road Rage’ Shooting: ‘When will enough be enough?’

April 17, 2024

State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven), ranking member of the Public Safety and Security Committee, today implored Majority Democrats to address the ongoing crime across Connecticut, including this week’s violent gathering of a reported 2,000 people on West Haven Beach and subsequent shooting at a gas station in the town. In Bristol, a man was shot in an apparent “road rage” incident yesterday.

“What we witnessed in West Haven should give everyone pause. Until recently, incidents like this would be beyond belief. Sadly, crime and violence in Connecticut have become the norm and it’s at a fever pitch. Criminals have been emboldened and this puts everyone’s safety on the line. The same goes for incidents on our roads, where a similar ‘road rage’ incident turned deadly in Meriden earlier this year. When will enough be enough?

“Thank you to West Haven Police and Bristol Police for their professionalism. I hope that the two injured West Haven officers make a quick recovery. I again ask my colleagues to join me in making meaningful changes to our laws to restore deterrence for these crimes, and hold criminals accountable. It does not have to be this way,” he said.
