State Senator Rob Sampson Responds to Democrats’ Proposed Ammo Tax

February 6, 2019

Hartford–Senator Rob Sampson (R-16) today blasted Sen. Haskell and Rep. Gilchrest’s bill HB 5700 which would impose a 50% tax on all ammunition sold in Connecticut.

“At least they’re not trying to fool anyone,” said Sen. Sampson. “In her Facebook Live video, Rep. Gilchrest made it clear just how much disdain she has for our Bill of Rights and those who sacrificed for it. Putting forward an openly hostile and ridiculous bill was clearly intended to send a message. Well, that message has been received and law abiding gun owners across Connecticut are up in arms. Aside from being an affront to our Constitution, it’s also an ignorant policy which would discourage people from practicing with their firearms. As anyone who actually cares about gun safety knows, it’s essential to practice with your firearms, whether you use it for hunting or self-defense.”

Sen. Sampson is a member of the Legislature’s Conservative Caucus and the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, a grassroots 2nd Amendment organization. He represents the 16th Senatorial district which includes Southington, Prospect, Wolcott, Cheshire, and Waterbury.
