(Norwich Bulletin Editorial)  “Thumbs Up” to Sen. Somers

After nearly three years of fighting against a proposed state police gun range and begging state leaders to hear residents’ pleas, thumbs up to the announcement that the gun range won’t be in Griswold. Gov. Ned Lamont said the range “is not going to happen,” leading to a celebration from residents who have been opposed to the facility.

Those residents and lawmakers like State Sen. Heather Somers, R-Groton, have worked to keep the gun range, which the state was seemingly forcing into the area, from happening.

Griswold resident Steve Douglas, after hearing the announcement, said he felt like it “was a dream.”

Douglas, who lives about a mile and a half away from the proposed site on Lee Road, is a Vietnam veteran who is still dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, and he feared the gunfire would aggravate it.

We’re happy to say residents won their battle and can finally put the issue behind them.
