Somers Wants Access Health CT Enrollment Deadline Extended

December 13, 2018

Citing multiple reports of delays for people trying to enroll in health insurance plans, Sen. Heather Somers (R-Groton) is calling for the Dec. 15 Access Health CT sign-up deadline to be extended by a month.

Connecticut consumers have until midnight on Saturday to enroll in a plan that provides health coverage for 2019, but Somers said she has heard from people who have reported hours-long delays and excessively slow internet in trying to sign up for health care online.

Those extensive delays, Somers said, have been discouraging residents from enrolling and have frustrated insurance brokers.

“Extending the sign-up deadline would address this issue of the delays and allow for more Connecticut residents to enroll in health insurance plans,” Somers said. “That should be our goal. I hope this suggestion will be considered and implemented before Saturday’s midnight deadline.”
