Response to Gov. Malloy Suggesting Veto Overrides Will Hurt Democrats

June 20, 2018

Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement in response to comments made by Governor Malloy today suggesting that voting to override his vetoes will hurt Democrats at the polls.

“It’s ridiculous for Governor Malloy to suggest overriding his vetoes will hurt Democrats at the polls. Clearly he has no idea what the public thinks of his policies which have led to Democrats losing seats and trying to distance themselves from the governor as much as possible. This is not sound political advice. This is the governor’s preemptive strike to try to dissuade the legislature from working together to reverse his vetoes. Lawmakers passed both the bills he warned against reinstating with strong bipartisan support. This legislation was crafted by legislators on both sides of the aisle coming together to do what was in the best interest of Connecticut residents and taxpayers. We should work together again to stand up to the governor’s arrogance. If Democrats want to improve our state and show the public that they are not the same as Governor Malloy they should work with Republicans to override his vetoes.”
