President Looney and Speaker Aresimowicz:

We are writing to ask for your support in our effort to override Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s veto of SB 261: An Act Extending The Manufacturing Apprenticeship Tax Credit To Pass Through Entities.

This legislation was the result of a bipartisan effort to help businesses grow, thrive and create jobs by offering a tax credit to spark further economic growth and investment in manufacturing and job training.

This bill does not create a deficit in the state budget, as the bipartisan budget has a $1.8 million surplus in the General Fund. In addition, the short term loss of $650,000 will be far outpaced by the potential for job creation and economic development over the long term. By making it easier for businesses to grow and expand in our state, this bill will have a positive impact on the budget for years to come.

The governor’s veto message makes it clear that Governor Malloy simply cannot bring himself to lower taxes in any situation. His misguided progressive views won’t allow him to accept even this bill which garnered strong bipartisan support. Once again, his shortsighted progressive mindset is hurting Connecticut. Therefore, we urge all lawmakers to work together, stand up to the governor and override this veto. We need to send a clear message to our state that the governor can no longer bully his political views through the legislature.

Sincerely,

Len Fasano

Themis Klarides
