Senator Miner Votes in Favor of Making Pregnancy a Qualifying Event for Health Insurance

May 2, 2018

Hartford-State Senator Craig Miner (R-Litchfield) today voted for a bill that would make pregnancy a qualifying event to purchase health insurance in Connecticut.

“This legislation allows women to purchase the health insurance for themselves and their unborn children as soon as they find out they are pregnant,” said Senator Miner. “This is important policy that allows women to give their children the best chance for a healthy life. As it stands now, many women are forced to wait for an open enrollment period, forgoing vital prenatal care that can lead to dangerous and expensive complications later. In the long run, I expect this will save the state and many insurance companies money, by reducing the number of sick children receiving costly care.”

The bill is now headed to the House of Representatives.
