Sen. Somers Releases Statement Re: Senate Approval of New Judicial Nominations

May 1, 2018

HARTFORD, Conn. – Today State Senator Heather Somers (R-Groton) released the following statement regarding the Senate approval of new judicial nominees.

“During these challenging fiscal times, when state leaders are trying to find ways to protect our most vulnerable Connecticut residents, adequately fund our schools and make good on our debt obligations, I find it extremely irresponsible for Governor Malloy to add more judges to the bench when he has not outlined a plan to pay for them,” said Sen. Somers. “While I agree that these candidates are extremely well qualified, with exemplary experience, and would do a quality job of presiding of their respective court; I felt compelled to cast a ‘No’ vote due to the fiscal implications of adding these judges to a state deficit already spiraling out of control.”
