Sen. Guglielmo Applauds Final Passage of Crumbling Foundations Bill

“We Can Either Pay Now or We Can Pay Later”

HARTFORD, Conn. – Today State Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) released the following statement regarding the Senate passage of House Bill 5209, An Act Concerning Long-Term Care Insurance Premium Rate Increases – which will implement a $12 surcharge on homeowners insurance policies in order to assist homeowners in Eastern Connecticut impacted by crumbling foundations.

“It comes down to a simple viewpoint – pay now or pay later,” said Sen. Guglielmo. “We have families, young and old, who will be homeless if the state doesn’t intervene – they will walk away from their largest investments, homes they have worked their entire lives to enjoy. These homeowners have done everything right and due to not fault of their own, have their homes collapsing and crumbling beneath their feet. Folks from my district don’t ask for handouts, they don’t ask for favors, but if these families walk away from their homes it will have a negative ripple effect throughout the state – a state that is still recovering from a recession. I want to thank my colleagues in the Senate and House for seeing what a huge impact this will have on Connecticut and for taking steps to try and begin to fix this problem.”
