Metro-North Improvements and Road Construction Announced in Stamford

This applies only to Stamford residents or anyone using the Stamford Train Station and nearby roadways

The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced the start of construction to replace the Metro North/Atlantic Street Bridge, the reconstruction of Atlantic Street, and track infrastructure improvements to the Stamford Train Station – this project is expected to begin Friday, June 1st. In addition, multimodal accommodations will provide for future bike lanes that will be incorporated into this project.

Detour and Lane Closure Information 

The first major part of this project will be to install the railroad track jump spans to prepare the new abutments for the replacement of the MNRR Bridge over Atlantic Street. This work will take place during the evening hours only with no expected reduction in train service. The jump span installations are scheduled to be completed by Fall 2018.

South State Street will remain at two lanes between Atlantic Street and Canal Street.

Variable message signs on Interstate 95 and South State Street will be utilized to advise motorists of traffic conditions in the area. Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.
