Danbury Ceremony Pays Tribute to Our Veterans

May 24, 2018

On this Memorial Day weekend, I hope you can find time to attend one of the many community events to honor the fallen members of our military. It is because of the sacrifice of generations of men and women that we are able to enjoy the incredible freedoms we have in this country.

One event in particular that I am looking forward to is a ceremony to rename Route 53 in Danbury as the Danbury Veterans Memorial Highway. The event will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 27 in front of the Danbury War Memorial Building on Main Street.

I was honored to introduce legislation last year to rename Main Street with the assistance of freshman legislator Representative Michael Ferguson. Danbury has such a rich history with our veterans and is home to the most active veterans’ communities in Connecticut.

Dedicating Main Street as the Danbury Veterans Memorial Highway continues our city’s legacy of honoring that small portion of our population who dedicate themselves to defending the lives and freedoms of American citizens.

I hope you can join me on Sunday. Regardless, I wish you and yours a happy Memorial Day weekend.

God bless America!
