North Central CT Chamber Discusses Economic Development

The North-Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce (NCCCC) is known throughout our communities as an active local organization. At the start of April I was honored to speak at their breakfast meeting to discuss economic development and how we can do better as a state.

NCCCC’s membership is made up over 300 local business leaders, with new members joining each month. The good news is that despite all of the negative attention toward Connecticut, these chamber members are still optimistic about opportunities here in Connecticut. I was happy to talk with them about all the great things they are doing in the community, along with their optimistic attitudes about the future of our state.

That being said they did want to discuss a few topics that are on the docket for this legislative session including tolls, new taxes and the state budget.

As I have told all my constituents – I am strongly against the installation of tolls across Connecticut. These tolls are just another tax on the hard-working families of North-Central Connecticut, families who are just trying to get to work each day to put food on the table.

That brings me to the next topic I discussed at the breakfast, taxes. Over the past 8 years Connecticut businesses and families have seen nothing but tax increases. That is why I am working with my colleagues to develop a state budget that doesn’t include tax increases – these taxes only make it harder for businesses to thrive here in our state.

I want to extend a thank you to NCCCC for inviting me to speak to their members about economic development and I look forward to following the work they do in the community.
