Sen. Suzio’s Capitol Forum Focuses on Teens and CT Abortion Practices

Sen. Len Suzio (at right) on Mar. 22 hosted an informational hearing at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford which focused on counseling and reporting with respect to teenagers seeking abortions in Connecticut, as well as the lack of a parental notification requirement in Connecticut.

Among the invited speakers at the information gathering session were legal and health experts, as well as officials from the Connecticut Catholic Conference.

Sen. Suzio also welcomed as a special guest Rhode Island Democrat State Rep. Camille Vella-Wilkinson.  Vella-Wilkinson has introduced legislation in Rhode Island that would prevent individuals from bypassing Rhode Island law by making it illegal to transport or otherwise aid a minor in traveling across state lines to receive an abortion without a parent’s consent.

“I thank the participants in this forum for helping to shine a light on this vitally important public health issue,” Sen. Suzio said.  “I hope this forum marks the start of a regular, ongoing discussion about best practices which can save lives and better protect our teens here in Connecticut.”
